Uncle Pete

So last weekend I finally got to meet the guy everybody keeps telling me that I look like - my Uncle Pete (Uncle Peter if you ask my mom). He rolled into town on Friday night and left Sunday afternoon. It was great.

He held me.

Strolled me.

Finally bonded with Mr. Kip.

Hung out with Dad.

And made Mom cry when he left. (She cries a lot.)

On top of all that he fixed Mom and Dad's air conditioning. And installed a web cam so we can skype with grandma. He also took me to my first restaurant - Red Dog for wings. Mom is super bummed she didn't get a photo - and tried to talk us into a set-up shot on Sunday. No dice from us. We said, "Next time!" (There will be a next time, right Uncle Pete?)

Channeling Grandma Betty

Last night I fell asleep in the tub. Honest. Just like my Grandma Betty.

Mom is really worried that I'll start taking books to the bath with me - wrinkled pages on the register could be in our future.

Have a seat

Miracle of miracles - the Monte chair arrived - finally completing Crazy Miss Maisey's room. Though given a 6-8 week delivery window, Elephant Ears estimated 4 weeks. But 4 weeks passed, then 5, then 6... Then one day I checked my Collard Green Dogs email account and discovered messages from Monte and the store. Apparently, Elephant Ears lost my phone number and the chair had been sitting at Detroit Metro Airport for weeks. They tracked me down via my profile on Etsy. It's a strange strange world.

The delivery man, DJ, was a total drip. He would deposit the furniture no further than the kitchen. And even that took some sweet talking (and me pointing out the threatening looking clouds when he attempted to leave it outside).

But at least now I have someplace to rock, or rather "glide," my baby.

And the room looks great.

Three weeks young

Highlights of week three? Grandma Betty was still in town. I went to Milford Memories - twice. Uncle Paul came to visit. Mom finally picked the zucchini. Dad and I mowed the lawn and tested out cousin Molly's hotsling. And the craziest thing? The tree right outside our kitchen window was struck by lightning! Oh. And I slept.

Like I said, Grandma Betty was still in town. She did some weeding for Mom, held me a lot, went to Milford Memories with me and was basically my number one fan. Mom cried when she left. Even more than me when I'm hungry!

Mom and Dad were excited to show me off at Milford Memories. My little legs hanging out of the thing on Dad's chest drew a lot of attention. They heard a lot of "Oh, she's so little!" and "She's wonderful." But one lady told Mom she was crazy for exposing me to all the germs. Pffffft. I'm building antibodies, lady! (We boycotted her booth.)

On Saturday, August 13, Uncle Paul came by. It was so good to see him again that I promptly fell asleep. We took him back down to Milford Memories to see the Cold Butt Euchre tournament. Someday that will be my butt on a block of ice!

Saturday was also the day our tree was struck by lightning. It was so scary! Mom and Grandma were talking about how there was a lot of thunder but no lightning. Then BAM! Bark was flying all over the yard and the air smelled funny. We all hope we can save part of it - Mom called an arborist for an opinion. No details yet.

This week Mom finally picked the zucchini. Dad likes to make stuffed zucchini boats and kept telling her that he wanted them as big as possible. For once, she listened. Check these things out!

Dad and I also did some mowing and slinging. And a titch of resting.

My brother Owen was not tickled by my balloon. He destroyed it. My first lesson in sharing.

  And then, I slept.

Pivot table princess

On Friday Dad had some serious pivot table issues and needed our help at Learning Care Group Support Central. Mom and Maisey to the rescue.

Mom was pretty impressed with the new parking spots. And though she's dropped "expectant" from her title, Dad said it was okay for us to occupy one of the three spaces. So we did.

We spend some time calculating stuff. And being held.

Dad was so happy to have help with his tables!

He almost didn't mind when I got excited and we had to use his desk as a changing table. Almost.

It was a full day. So then, I rested.

Two weeks on earth

Mom keeps saying she can't get over how exhausting and time-consuming it is to take care of me. And how she doesn't have a spare minute to update the blog. I couldn't agree less. I'm one easy-going baby! I mean all I do is eat every 2.5 hours, sleep on occasion and make noisy messes in my fancy cloth diapers. Oh, and howl every time mom tries to trim my nails. But really, how difficult is that?! Mom also says that she's going to get better at updating the blog, so I'm passing on the word.

Anyhow, my second week on earth was a busy one.

The weekend of August 6-7, I had some visitors. First-cousins-once-removed Tammy, Nikki and Jody visited along with Great Aunt Jane.

Then, Great Auntie Robin came by with Great Uncle Waddy. It was Robin's 65th birthday!

On Monday, we traveled to Bloomfield Hills to bid farewell to Secretary Numero Uno - Ms. Brenna Lane - future Detroit Anthropologist Extraordinaire.

On our way home, mom was feeling brave and took me on my first trip to the grocery store - I was only 11 days young! We took Kroger by storm. Toward the end, I heard some other babies crying and started fussing myself. Good thing the store manager/seasoned grandma was nearby to offer some expert cart rocking lessons.

Monday was also the day Dad visited my future Tuesday/ Thursday hangout - Childtime on Middlebelt. He brought home some paperwork and my welcome sign. Mom cried.

Tuesday was a great day! Grandma Betty showed up with my other brother Owen and kicked off 6 days of pampering for me, Mom and Dad.

On Wednesday we went to 5th and Fringe in Royal Oak so I could see Auntie Colleen and Mom could get her hairs cut. (She was supposed to get a hairdo the day I decided to arrive - of course she cancelled that appointment.) While she got her scalp massaged, Grandma Betty and Colleen strolled me down Main. All the ladies at Haberman loved me.

Thanks to Auntie Colleen, I was the most stylin' baby in Metro Detroit that day!

Thursday was another great day. And my two week birthday. More pampering by Grandma Betty, and Auntie Karyn sent us dinner from Chicago. A deep dish pizza and a cheesecake! Lucky Mom and Dad I have! We also went to the doctor - I was up 8 ounces! And, did some shopping at Carters and Target. Phew!

Thursday night was set-up night for Milford Memories. Mom and Dad have a tradition of going down to the "hot corner" to watch the train wreck that is an art show opening. Mom was worried I would join the train wreck but instead it was Dad - who spilled his Long Island all over Grandma. On the way home they stopped to introduce me to the neighbors. Mom was very animated when she talked about being a new parent.

It was a good week. I had some ups with Mom and some downs with Dad but after some good knee time, I was deemed a gold star baby by Grandma.
