Adventures in Esky - Pt. 1 - Taking in the sights

My mom is finally getting around to posting some pics of my time in the Banana (what Uncle Pete calls Escanaba.) Mom was really excited to show me where she hopes I'll spend some summers.

First, we took in the yacht harbor, where Uncle Pete spends a lot of time testing out his products.

Then, we went by the historic lighthouse. Grandma knows a lot about it, since she volunteers at the museum next door.

Mom didn't want me to think that was the only lighthouse though, so she pointed out the real one.

And then Grandma had to show me the oar boats. Obviously, I found it riveting.

On a different day, we took in Farmer's Market - a little different than the market I visited with Great Aunt Robin, but a market nonetheless. Grandma knew everybody! And bought from everybody she knew. She's a nice lady.

Mom said that a trip to Escanaba wasn't complete without a walk to Scoops, so she and Uncle Pete sacrificed for me and brought me over there. To make it worth the trip, Mom had to forgo the small for a medium. (Between us, I think she misses when she was allowed to enlarge.) Uncle Pete kept an eye on me to be sure I didn't try to sneak a slush.

I think I'm going to like this place!

Sunday Funday

Yesterday, I started the day with a bath. Did I mention I love baths?

Then, Mom and Dad took me on an excursion to Ferndale's DIY Art Fair. Theatre Bizarre was selling tickets to this year's party. Mom couldn't talk Dad into buyin' though. When we'd had our fill of the hipsters, we headed home.

At night, Dad read me a new story. Ferdinand. (Did I mention I love story time with Dad?) Mom said that they had a dog whose real name was Cooper, but they called Ferdinand, because he liked to smell the tomato plants. She misses him.

Even though he was a rascal.

Maizey 'n' Maize

Don't tell Mom, but I spent Saturday hyping the Wolverines with Dad. Great Uncle Joe gifted me this super cool sweatsuit. I tried to start the wave. Dad joined in but Kip and Owen were party poopers - or maybe just Spartan fans.

All the waving  wore me out. So I took a break. Thank goodness for DVR.

In 4 weeks Mom and Dad's schools face off in East Lansing. We're going to attend a tailgate and I am going to don Mom's colors. She's desperately searching for a Spartan sweatsuit just like this but thinks Great Uncle Joe bought them all and is hiding them in his basement.

p.s. You may have noticed Mom is spelling my name with a "z" now. More on that later.

When I grow up

I want to be a tree climber.

A few weeks ago, lightning struck our big black locust tree. Mom and Dad brought the arborist around, who thought we could save it if we cut off the crispy part. Yesterday, that's just what they did. Dad was a bit stressed out about the new sod. Mom was a bit stressed out about the tree climber's life (but happy she got to use her zoom lens). I was elated to have already discovered my lot in life.

It was pretty amazing. The chainsaw just hung from the guy's belt. I can't wait to give it a go!

When Dad got home I put on my androgenous "Daddy's little helper" outfit from G-Ma and helped him haul some of the leftover wood. One less face cord to buy this winter! But a lot of hand-splitting ahead.

2 months - 1 week = Me yesterday

I turned 7 weeks old yesterday. My mom can't believe it. At Grandma Betty's request, she's going to include my worm in her weekly photo so people can see how much I grow.

To celebrate, we spent the morning with Maria, soon-to-be-big sister Ruby and some of their homemade almond scones. Mmmmm. (But I stuck with milk - straight up.)
I played the part of "baby" and let Ruby practice her holding. She passed with flying colors. Good thing too - her sibling could arrive any day! We are very excited to meet him or her. Mom can't believe it was only a few months ago with she and Maria snapped this photo. Time flies with me around.

We left a little after 1, so Ruby could nap until 4. Mom thought that sounded dreamy. She can't wait til I'm on a schedule. My take on the whole thing - boooorrrrrriiing. Schedule, smedule.

When we got home we walked the Milford Trail and saw two deer. Well, Mom and Owen did. I saw a lot of yellow. My snappy pineapple hat from Great Aunt Robin is still a titch big.
But at 54 degrees (the second coldest day of my life), Mom wasn't taking any chances.
Especially since I've been fighting a case of the sniffles.

At least when we got home she let me lounge in the sun.
As Uncle Pete used to say, "This is the life."

Kisses for Maisey

Mom finally got around to sending out my birth announcements. (Only took her 4 weeks - I tell you, people, I am WAY more mature now. I mean, in those pics I was an infant. Now I'm a baby!) Anyhow, my older pals are loving all over me! Check out the pics Mom got via text...

My Chicago boyfriend Charlie, giving me some sugar.

And my Ferndale lady, Willa, smoochin' my mug.
