Fire up, Gram!

Grandma Betty and Grandpa Bob came for a visit a few weeks ago, following their sojourn through the Netherlands. A highlight? Memorial Day bonfire with THE bonfire queen.
Though it wasn't on Lake Michigan, in her backyard, she was still happy as a toasted marshmallow.

Will was there to facilitate.
(But admittedly, I micromanaged his fire-making. Shocker.)

And yeah,
Maizey was there. Lu was snoozing.

In true Breclaw form, Maizey got a serious s'more-prep lesson.

(With a Grandma twist - sampling ALLOWED!)

This was followed by a serious roasting lesson...

"Rotate and concentrate..."
(Evidence as to why I am such a freak-a-zoid about my bonfire/s'more making...)

But not too serious...
YAY!

Followed by the sweet, sweet reward...

 Even Kip got some...

 And then, a fireside chat...

 Oh what a night...

p.s. Yes, our roasting sticks were actually repurposed snow plow markers. Betty has since replaced with proper metal, forked, extendable units.

 p.p.s. I was there too...

Melting on Memorial Day

Bill, Jenny, and twins Anna and Ethan made the trek to Milford to sweat visit with us on Memorial Day. There was some serious parading to do.

BF Jack was there too. Channeling some "Fear and Loathing..."

This part had Mom a little choked up. Reminded her of EAA. And her Dad. And all the sacrifices made to secure our freedom.

We headed home early. Too loud. Too hot. Lots of tears. But back at the hacienda all was well. Dad's BBQ ribs and Mom's blue cheese potato salad cures all. (The corn on the cob and macaroni and cheese didn't hurt either.)

The fabulous afternoon culminated in an attempted child photo shoot.

Eventually, OVER IT! What little troopers we had on our hands...

It was a fittingly memorable Memorial Day.
