Quest for a dress

Though my first baby shower is primarily about golf, after my nine holes, I want to be able to change into something a tad cuter than my high-waisted khaki short+polo combo. Hence, where the dress quest comes in.

If you've been reading for awhile, you know my disdain for most maternity fashions. But, during the most recent quest, I think I've discovered the root of the problem. Nothing - no maternity wear miracle - can make me look not-pregnant or not-25 lbs. heavier. Except maybe these. Modern-day maternity torture. Mama SPANX. But worth it? Probably not.

Instead, I get it... it's
about embracing and celebrating the new, rounder me and making the best of the situation. Tough. But true. So, knowing that, I've narrowed it down to two contenders. One simple, one a little more "maternity." One from Michael Stars (left) vs. one from (thank you, Karyn), French Connection Maternity for ASOS. (P.S. ASOS is a great source for maternity clothing. And with free shipping + returns, it's easier than hitting the dreaded mall.) You'll just have to wait to see what I choose.

As an aside, there were some real losers in the hunt. This gem, also ordered from ASOS, was bag-lady atrocious. I just needed a lollipop and a bow in my hair to complete the look.

And this one, though it fit me perfectly, made me feel garden-party/the Mad Hatter's tea party threw up on me/HEY LOOK, I'M HAVING A BABY pretty. Not sassy-Ziplock Maggie cute.

Don't even get me started on this number...
So, short of torturing myself with mama SPANX, which may actually make me look 25 lbs. lighter, but may also make me break into hives and pass out, I'm just going to go with it. And know, in six months or so, I just might be able to shop for something that makes me look un-pregnant.
