4+2=6

I turned 6 weeks old yesterday! Doula Deb told Mom that was a milestone - that around six weeks I'd stop being a newborn and start being a baby. Mom agrees - this sixth week has been busy, busy, busy. I sleep longer at night. I'm awake a lot during the day. My eyes cross a whole lot less. And when I look at things, it seems I'm really seeing them.

Check me out at week two . . .

And now . . .

Grandma, Grandpa, Mom and Uncle Pete celebrated me with a rib dinner. Mmmmmm!

Escanaba's been pretty great! I am cooed over 18 hours a day.
There is no big scary furry yellow beast to disturb my tummy time.
And I have the coolest washcloth outfits during bath time.

We really miss Dad but we'll be sad to leave on Sunday!

Returning to my roots

Last week Mom and Dad brought me back to where it all began - the Alternative Birth Center at Providence Hospital in Southfield. They wanted to drop off a photo album of my birth and a box of Thank You Sayklly's chocolate. They were so happy - the lucky lady who delivered me was on duty. Rhoni was very happy to see how big and strong I am now. And Mom and I were happy to see her looking our best. Not all sweaty (Mom), gooey (me) and naked (both of us).

Nurse Helen was there too. She gave Mom and Dad a tour way back when I was just a twinkle in their eyes.

Mom and Dad tried to high tail it outta there once the gifts were exchanged but this lady thought I was the cat's pajamas. Wouldn't let Dad walk away. Mom liked her hair so she took a photo. I am one popular gal!

Everything's a first

Whew! Sorry for my delinquent posting. Just recovering from my wild weekend (like Dad - more on that when I turn 21 and can hear the story). Anywhooo... it was full of "firsts."

First long distance car trip - Dad was appalled at how much stuff I need. And how long it takes to get out the door. Sorry - all I can say is "like mother like daughter"...

First time at the cottage...

First time Grandpa Bill and Mom held me at the cottage
(and first time in my fancy outfit from Grandma Katie)...

First time meeting my cousins - Bubba and Cash. They loved me...

First time at Tasty Treat...

First time Dad used his pants as my blanket (and to secure me)...

First hotel stay...

First time hanging out with a fancy Mom and Dad...

First time watching a wedding (from a balcony with Grandma Betty - who was my first babysitter). Congrats to Sam and Brendan!...

First time at a wedding reception - and first time meeting Uncle Billy (who loved me)...

First time crossing the Mackinac Bridge (and Mom says last time doing so on Labor Day)...

First time sittin' shotgun...

First stop at a scenic overlook...

And first time in Escanaba - but that's for another day!

Go Mavs

Mom and Dad took me to dinner at Cinco Lagos on Thursday. It was busy - everybody was hyping the first home football game. Will I be a Maverick someday?

Or an Eskimo? (Or maybe by then Escanaba will adopt a more politically correct mascot - so whatever that is...)

To market, to market...

...to buy a fat pig. Or some sunflowers. Or tomatoes. Or to just hang out with my great Great Aunt Robin.

On Wednesday, Mom and I took a field trip to Ann Arbor. We were a little late - I decided to test her patience by dirtying three diapers while she was trying to get me into the car seat - but once we arrived, were in it to win it.

We walked to Farmer's Market.

And found Uncle Pete's back up business if the davets don't work out.

On the way home we stopped at a new attraction  - well, new to Mom who likes to wax poetic about her days living in A2. (I'm like, "Lady, that was EONS ago! Of course things have changed.") Anyhow, we grabbed a bite at Downtown Home and Garden sponsored Mark's Carts, a community of independently owned food carts one block off of Main. The idea is to give people who are thinking about opening a restaurant an opportunity to test the waters, a way for displaced workers looking for a career change to begin a business without expensive overhead and a chance for young people enthusiastic about food to try their hand. Mom had whitefish paella. She said it was great. Me - I prefer a boob.

Then, we went back to 337 Mulholland to catch up with Uncle Waddy and endure 2 diaper changes (as a reward I got that boob I'd been salivating over). Robin surprised me with a new book for my growing collection. She said the girl looks like me. I concur. And will put it on Dad's "read to Maisey" list.

The rest of the day was sort of a drag. Lactation consultants and cloth diaper rash experts... So I did what I do second best. I slept.
