Yet another example...

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Last year some zucchini got away from me.
Maizey was three weeks old.

This year, one zucchini got away from me.
Maizey was 13 months old.

Maybe next year I'll remember to check the squash.

What's up Doc?

Last week Will and I brought Maizey to her one year well-visit.

There was some reading in the waiting room.

 Stroller-rides in the exam room.

Some corner exploration.

And then we got down to business.
Head and length measurement... M is 30.75" long, which puts her in the 90-95 percentile. Her head is keeping up, thank goodness. At 18.5", it's also the 90-95 percentile.

She was sort of over the visit shortly after the exams began, as evidenced by her face.
Or maybe it was her 22 lb. 4 oz. weight, which placed her in only the 78 percentile. More french toast in her future, I think.

Unfortunately, her mood went swiftly downhill once Doc Kendall entered the room, prompting the physician to refrain from vaccinations. We had to schedule a return visit, which took place yesterday.

Poor little lady had no idea what was in front of her.
And her totally silly Childtime hairdo made it that much harder to watch her get stuck.

She was pretty patient, though.
And spent a lot of time chatting with Dad.

It was his responsibility to take photos of the shots, since I was the heavy - holding her down. Unfortunately, he was so traumatized by her screeches that he failed to snap even one. But, we do have paper-proof that Maizey received her MMR, HiB, Varicella and PCV13. One in each leg and one in each arm. OUCH! But totally necessary - she's protecting herself and those around her. Right, Cousin Molly? *wink*

Party party party

My official party was on August 4 in Escanaba - an ice cream social.

It was hot hot hot. But, I still had fun. Mom attributes this editing out the smash cake ritual. I think I would have handled that like a pro too, but whatevs.

First bite of the day - delivered by Aunt Bobbi.

You scream, I scream.

Topping table.
(Note the presentation. White tablecloth and antique glass dishes at a one-year-old's ice cream social. Off the hook? Well, that's how G-Ma rolls...)

I did some bouncing.

My prezzie from Mom and Dad. Rodie.

I met Anya for the first time.

Blue Moon lady.

Administered by Uncle Pete.

Mom and her high school friends all had babies in the same year.

Here we are. Me, Anya and Jayce. Escanaba pals.

It was a great party (but I did miss Gram and Gramps Spurgeon, Aunt Colleen and Uncle Paul - hope we can celebrate with them soon).

Thanks to Rich Johnson of Photos by Rich for snapping these shots!

Fun at the fair

On the final day of our Summer 2012 Escanaba vacay, Mom and Gram introduced me to a senosry overload that is the U.P. State Fair.

It brought back lots of memories for Mom, since she and Sugar 'n' Spice, her Arabian/Quarter Horse mix, used to spend the week there.

The witty signage.

The ad-hoc living rooms erected in dairy and beef barns.

The Croatian chicken vendor.

The deliciously adorable swine, unaware of the fate awaiting them the post-4H sale.

 The pine tree parking lot.

 And the ubiquitous horse-ring dust.

I enjoyed all of it. Especially the animals.

Petting a chick.

Walking the Miracle of Life barn.

 Hello Mr. Alpaca.

Admiring the latest in fair fashion. (Mom thinks Project Runway should take these guys on as a challenge.)

And being harassed by cheeky sheep.

(He loved my bougie stroller.)

And I...
had a wonderful time. (Next year Dad's coming along.)

Grandpa reads to me

One of my favorite things up north was all of the cuddling Grandpa and I did on the front porch. We read soooo many books!

He's the only one who can get me to sit still.

(Mom here... After getting my head around Renegade, I sat down to add some shots to Enlarging Marge, only to discover a dreaded "No Internet Access" notification. Brother Pete helped me out but I only had time to download and resize - not post. Look for something new Friday. Pinky swear. On a separate note - M had her one year well visit today. Actually more like a 3/4 visit. She was still recovering from a Monday bug so we have to go back for the 12 month shots next week. I'll give you a status update then.)

Daddy skills

Wanted to stop in and explain my neglectful posting... I am currently suffering through GP withdrawal and back-to-the-office syndrome, coupled with craft fair anxiety. I have some wrap-up shots from our time in the Yoop (watch for a State Fair post) but until I recover and quell the anxiety, won't be doing any photo editing or uploading.

In the meantime enjoy a YouTube video c/o Ms. Molly Rose, whose pal A. Dub Designs, will be my Renegade booth neighbor.

p.s. What do you think of Will's daddy skills?

Agatha

Anybody who's been to 1129 has probably encountered Agatha. Part sweet, part creepy - she's been a dining room fixture for as long as Mom can remember.

I spent quite a bit of time talking to her and pulling her onto the floor for serious heart-to-hearts. Grandpa Bob thinks she should come back to Milford with me. Mom agrees. Eventually. When we get a bigger house.

On the docket today? The UP State Fair, maybe the beach and a longggg drive back to Milford. Thank goodness Dad's there. Otherwise they'd never get me away from this place!
