Shopping shopping shopping

I love to shop.

 Why?

Because I can flirt with all the other people in the store.

Play with odd toys. And ride casually in the cart...

Great Cloth Diaper Change 2012

Last weekend Maizey and I participated in  the 2nd Annual Great Cloth Diaper Change an attempt to set a world record for the most cloth diapers changed at one time.

At 5:30 pm GMT on Saturday (12:30 pm EST) -- concurrent with Earth Day --parents gathered in more than 300 locations to change diapers. From Ann Arbor (our location) to New York's Upper East side to Sarah Palin's stomping grounds in Wasilla, Alaska to Belgium, Malaysia, Chile, Estonia, Israel and 11 other countries, bottoms were padded with cloth.

The current record for concurrent cloth diapering stands at 5,026. And while that might sound like an awful lot, it's actually less than the total number of disposable diapers that the Real Diaper Association (RDA) estimates a family will go through by the time their baby turns 2.
No word yet on whether we broke the record, but Maizey and I did participate in the third largest event worldwide. (And probably the event with the most amber teething necklaces, bare breasts and homemade slings. Gotta love A2.)

Full disclosure? If I'm truly honest, I really did it for the schwag.

Auntie Jen

Auntie Jen, soon to be Mama Jen (in Sept. 2012) came to visit on Tuesday.
We went to lunch.

And she brought gifts!

I love my Charley Harper blocks! Thanks, lady!

She even helped me practice my high-five!

She's gonna be a great mama.

8 months, 3 weeks, 4 days

  Really, Mom? A sticker?

Mom gives up. I win. And I eat.

Yes. Maizey is nearly 9 months. Will be on Saturday, in fact. But I was tardy with 7 months as well, so at least the growth is accurate. Why so late? Well . . . life. It's busy. I don't know how outside-the-home working mamas do it. And single mamas? Moms of multiples? Don't even want to ponder it.

But I am soaking up my marvelous, sassy little ham bone. Eight month highlights? She loves  smiling at strangers. Juts out her chin, bares her two choppers and gives 'em a grin. (But watch out - she's got four teeth coming in up top.) Yesterday she mastered all-fours crawling. She loves to bang her toys together. And eat puffs. And sneak puffs to Kip. (Number two fave food? Yogurt.) She loves to drink (or fake-drink) ice water out of a glass. (Thanks to Grandpa Bob/Flannel.) She's got a royalty-worthy wave. Sometimes she plays shy and burrows her face into Mama's shoulder. (And admittedly, Mama kind of likes it.)

On a different note, last week was a bit of a whirlwind. Gram and Gramps departed. Maizey was diagnosed with her second ear infection. I was in the office three days. We had Jack, Jaclyn and Mark for dinner. We participated in the Great Cloth Diaper Change and had an eventful trip to Lowes (yay room darkening window-wear). We had to cut down another tree. And the teething monster moved into Maizey's mouth. Pics to come...

Flannel and Chocolate

Grandma Chocolate is finally done making chocolate, Grandpa Flannel was able to clear his busy retirement schedule and hazah - the Yoopers came for a visit.

Loving Gram in the grass.

Wouldn't be a Yooper visit without a project. (This time? Weather-proofing deck furniture.)

 I supervised.

With Kip's help.

Scrabble and Mum Mums!

And books.

One more day and they head back to the Great White North. Boo!

B-O-N-D

Last night Will, Maizey and I went a titch crunchy and participated in a panel discussion for the Alternative Birth Center's Birthing Normally series. (You may remember my first and second post about these events - wayyy back.) The topic? First Week With Your Baby.

Our two-thumbs-up positive experience is a tad abnormal, but a viewpoint they wanted represented. We obliged. With a hand-out. Acronym care of Will.

If you have questions about any of the topics, I'm happy to share. EnlargingMarge@gmail.com

Wednesday's smile

This video's pretty popular so you may have seen it. If not, dedicate 9 minutes to watching - it will make you smile.

If Maizey ever gets to East L.A., she wants to visit.

Welcome Anya Marais Braun

Yesterday, high school pal Nicki and husband Eric welcomed baby girl Anya Marais. Born at 12:48 p.m., she was 7 pounds, 2 ounces and 18 inches long.

I am so excited to celebrate this new family. It's a different kind of joy, now that I am a mother. I can relate to the overwhelming emotion they're feeling. The newness of it all. Having a baby does change everything. But in a good way.

When I started Enlarging Marge it was to keep my far-away family close. It served its purposed but continues to be a bridge between my loved ones and me. Thank you for following our adventures and celebrating this crazy, wonderful life.

Easter linner

All dressed up and no {some}place to go.

Instagram-me-Mom.

Why hello.

I believe you are scary. Or will be in the future.

But right now, I'm happy to fixate  on your ears.

And smile for the camera, of course.

Back to being serious. (It's the bow.)

I love my dad.

Lost the tights during diaper change #2.

Long bunny trail.
