Leap Day fun 'n da U.P.

Today's fun continued...

Granny demonstrated.

And Mom returned to her roots.
Like riding a bike.

While they cleared snow I meditated on the absolute coolness my other new skill.
The straw sip.

Thanks to Maria and Ruby for the tip! Hopefully I'll be able to perform it tomorrow. Who knows since today isn't a real day?! Are my new skills real? Oh the drama.

Me in da U.P. - Episode 4

Yep. Still here.

Mom thought we'd leave Tuesday but with Snowpocolypse sweeping the U.P., she decided we'd stay put.

Activities?

Fire time...
with Gram.

Reading...
with Gramps.

And executing my new favorite move...

the wrist flick.

Me in da U.P. - Episode 3

Hey y'all. Still in the U.P.
(But reppin Detroit.)

Still talkin' candidates with Uncle Pete -
From my perch.

New stuff?
Eating in the living room.

And chillin' in my new wheels.
With my new Sesame Street friends.

And these new wheels.
With G-Ma B.

It's been great. But I do miss my pops. Lots.

Me in da U.P. - Episode 2

Still north of The Bridge, enjoying Grandma Chocolate and Grandpa Flannel. And, my mama. Even though she's developed a penchant for twinsie dressing...
Camo cool? (At least it's not pinafores and headbands.)

Uncle Ozzie showed up bearing gifts. Walter's elephant jammies (my third pair)...
Love 'em.

And a gift from Aunt Barbara.
Mmm... wrapping paper...

More importantly, it included one of her trademarks.
Mrs. Monkey.

Before returning to the Twin Cities, Ozzie treated me to my first Bushmills.
In a Waterford glass, of course.

Could you do me a huge favor?

Marge here... while reading Kelle Hampton's latest post I stumbled upon the vid below. Hi{f-ign}larious.

But it also made me feel a tad old/foolish when I realized the Natural Mom vid I posted was a take on this phenomenon, and that I wasn't hip enough to know it. *Sigh*

Me in da U.P.

Mom and I headed north on Wednesday night to spend some time with G 'n' G U.P. (and for mom to shower with her friend Nicki). First order of business? Buy some Busch Light before the store sells out.

Just kidding.

Really though, Mom ran errands (and pined after the fancy beverage choices at the local grocery)
and I hung out with Grandpa Flannel Shirt.
Toys or toy basket? The latter please.

I also spent some time helping him polish the floor. I told him I was fine using my belly but being the nice guy that he is, he outfitted me with my very own rag.
(He's desperate for help now that Grandma Chocolate spends all her time at The Factory. Poor guy. But, I was happy to oblige.)

Later on, Uncle Pete and I had a pre-dinner convo about the presidential candidates.

(It was a follow-up to the late night chat we started when he chauffeured Ma and I home from St. Ignace at midnight.)

And then I tucked into some GF-prepared acorn squash.
It was awesome.

(BTW - what about this perch? Love it? I do. Mom and Uncle Pete are thinking of building some out of aluminum and selling them. College fund? Cha-ching!)

(And p.s. GF=Grandpa Flannel)

Sophie the Bougie Giraffe

So, have you heard of Sophie the Giraffe? No? Well, then you haven't bought a baby gift lately or checked out the most popular toys for infants. In our house, Sophie was formerly known as the "Are-you-freaking-kidding-me-$20-teething-toy-canine-temptress." But now, she's part of the family. Clearly, hands-down, my favorite companion. (Other than the boob, of course.)

Mom was totally perplexed by the bougie babe phenomenon that is Sophie so she did some searching and found this $20 toy explanation.

Tres chic. Non?

Splish splash with Pops

Dad tagged in at Little Goldfish last week.

Singing the Hello song with Cookie Monster. (Cookies Schmookies! I love to eat his eyes.)

Motorboating myself about.

Kicks!

Which is not easy with these gams. I mean, really?! Have you seem them?

And prepping for the Alligator Jump.

I love swimming.

And my dad.

Built for speed

Dad got a new toy on Friday. He says it's for me but I'm no fool. We took it for a test run on Sunday. It was brrrrr cold so Mom made me wear my arctic gear. Soooo embarrassing.

Tah Dah! A running stroller! Gettin' strapped in...

A pretty big deal - my first ride facing forward.

And off we go.

My take? It'll be fab for summer Sunday runs at Kensington with Dad, Kip, Grandpa and Gemma. Mom and Dad hope to street test it at the Corktown run. Which this year, will more likely be a walk. Stay tuned!

Aunt Jane's retired!

Last night I attended my first retirement party. The Spurgeon crew gathered at Peabody's in Birmingham to celebrate Great Aunt Jane. I didn't get a shot with the lady of honor, but Mom did grab a shot with Aunt Colleen...

And Grandpa Bill...

And one of me eating carrots at the big people table.

Someday, I'll tell you about the adventure Dad and I had in the bathroom. When he's recovered. (A hint: silly Mom expected Peabody's to have a changing station in the men's room. Silly, silly mom...)

Enjoying the small things

My friend Maria, now a successful blogger herself, recommended a wonderful mom blog, Enjoying the Small Things by Kelle Hampton, before Maizey was born. But she warned me not to start reading it until after M was born. Then, she said, "Get a box of tissues and start here."

Kelle is a wonderful writer, an amazing photographer and an inspiring mom. She has a new book coming out in April which I'm eager to read. As Maria said in a recent blog post, "watch the trailer and get inspired immediately..."

So, watch...

And be inspired.

So much love

Valentines Day. Love it.

Grandma and Grandpa UP sent me a package.

Which I opened like the big girl I am.

It included my first Carhartt (coveralls).

Mmmm - pink...

Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Greg even sent me a Valentine all the way from Fort Collins!

Mmmm... paper.

Though I needed Mom and Dad's help to figure out the Valentine wasn't for eating.
The rattle was.
Mmmmm... delicious.

Sh*t Crunchy Mamas Say

Marge here. Though I battle against labeling people, because I think nobody can fit into just one category, I love this vid. I can cop to uttering about 80% of these phrases.

And can somebody toss me a heads-up before the Sh*t Hipster Mamas Say video comes out? Prior to viewing, I'll need to hide sharp implements - I don't think I could deal if I related to that production.

p.s. The video was posted on a great blog, mamanatural.com, and brought to my attention by my friend and fab blogger/author/fellow crunchy mama, Maria Dismondy.

Dad sitting skills

Big day Sunday. MSU vs. UM. Super Bowl. So, it was a Daddy/Daughter drool day.

This is what it looked like.
Attentive Pops, heh?

I didn't mind though. Just give me something to chew on and I'm A-OK.
Mom wasn't as tickled. Typical.

Little finger strangle hold

More strangle hold than finger wrapped, wouldn't you say?

Bounce, Dad, bounce!

Channeling Rumpelstiltskin much?

Sick but not out

A little ear infection can't keep me down.
Watch me go!
My progress thwarted only by the door.
Booya.
Crawling is just around the bend.
